The call for applications is now open. Bloomberg, through its “Africa Startups to Watch” project, is once again seeking out the continent’s most promising startups for the 2026 edition of its ranking. The goal: to highlight the boldest ideas, the most visionary founders, and the technological solutions capable of transforming African challenges into sustainable opportunities.
The previous edition had already showcased 25 companies with projects as diverse as they were inspiring. Whether it was refrigerators operating off-grid, portable soil analysis devices, or low-energy robots, the selected startups shared a deep connection to the realities of the continent and a resolutely impact-oriented approach.
In a context where artificial intelligence is emerging as a driver of global transformation, Bloomberg highlights that Africa, rich in its youth and creativity, is at a crossroads. Entrepreneurs see this as an opportunity to bypass traditional barriers, innovate without constraints, and develop solutions tailored to local needs.
The 2026 edition of this initiative aims to reward companies that have proven their value on the ground. To be included on this prestigious list, startups must be privately held, active in Africa, and able to demonstrate that their product has already generated real demand.
Project leaders must also detail the funding obtained, the partnerships established, and the concrete results of their activity. Bloomberg particularly emphasizes the quality of the examples provided: specific use cases are more valuable than broad generalities.
Diversity remains a cornerstone of the selection process. Whether geographical, sectoral, or human, the variety of profiles and ideas is seen as a driver of innovation. The organizers aim to reflect the continent’s dynamism in all its nuances, from megacities to rural areas, from fintech to biotech, including healthcare, agritech, and educational technologies.
Applications must be submitted by January 23, 2026. Apply here
The final list will be announced in the first quarter of the same year, and the winners will benefit from significant exposure through Bloomberg TV and the group’s platforms. For the selected startups, this is a unique opportunity to gain recognition, attract new investors, and access new markets.
By launching this call, Bloomberg confirms its commitment to playing an active role in the African technology ecosystem. More than just a ranking, it’s a manifesto for innovation, boldness, and impact, at a time when the continent is poised to take a decisive step in its digital transformation.
